You may experience stress building up over a period of time, without any opportunity to release. This may happen as a result of disturbing events like getting bullied, undergoing a breakup, or having episodes of feeling rejected or put down by people, etc. What you have been thinking, experiencing, and what others say to you shapes your brain, your beliefs, your feelings and general mood, your perception of yourself, and your experience of the world. Imagine, if you could feel good about yourself again and no longer be defined by your past or by others, your life would be so different? Well, the Havening Technique can help you achieve this.
Havening Techniques are remarkable. They’re quick, easy, scientifically proven, and powerful. The best part is that Havening Therapy Techniques work! Thus, we at ‘Make It Happen Hypnotherapy’ don’t treat the symptoms that you may have, however, we treat the cause through the havening method. Our goal is to find out when your symptoms started.
So what are the various Havening Technique steps? When our therapists find out the traumatic event or memory you experienced, they haven that event to delink and decode the emotions attached to the memory from your Amygdala. If there is no specific event or memory, then we Haven the emotions one at a time and create a more resilient landscape of your brain moving forward.
There are 3 main Havening Techniques that we use at MIHH
It’s a haven technique that deals with specific traumatic events creating responses with significant emotions e.g. PTSD / break-ups/phobias.
This Havening Method works on either specific negative emotions associated with an event, or creates new positive emotional states.
It’s a Havening Technique that allows you to create desired goals and the associated emotions you may go through when you have achieved them.
Using one of the Havening Techniques, we work through the events and emotions that impact you. Thus, our therapists specialized in self-havening techniques seek to remove your emotional blocks and the negative feelings attached to such an event/memory. Once you get rid of the negative emotions, our therapists help you to instill hope and positive beliefs that you want. Thus, by the end of the havening therapy, you will be in a happier, lighter state.
In the case of Traumatisation, our brain stores (encodes) the memory as a traumatic experience. As a result of a traumatic event, we create a meaning, e.g. I got bitten by a dog and I have a phobia of dogs.
That split-second, the unconscious part of your mind changes the chemistry associated with the feeling part of your brain called the amygdala. From this moment on, whenever something triggers it, the pathway fires off. The triggering event can be remotely similar to the initial event, not necessarily logically but just perceived in that way by our unconscious mind.
Further, such an event generates the same emotional responses and the associated behaviors that come about in response to the initial event. In addition to this, these responses to the triggering event also release stress hormones.
This means every subsequent time you see a dog, or just a shadow that looks like a dog, or anything that reminds you of that particular initial event, the trigger gets fired off, and you immediately feel intense fear and panic.
However, the Havening Technique de-links the emotional content of a past event from your memory itself. In other words, you will still remember the memory of the event, however, the emotion attached to such an event is no longer there.
How does this happen through the Havening method? Well, by using applied touch to accessible parts of your body. Such Havening touch alters your brain chemistry. Further, it is this altered chemistry that gives us a way in to be able to biologically change the way your memories have been stored.
Thus, using Havening techniques, the hypnotherapists at ‘Make It Happen Hypnotherapy’ permanently disrupt the path to a negative memory. This means that even if the trigger occurs, the havening method delinks it from the emotional response. No emotional response to the memory means it’s no longer traumatic – it is just a memory.
Havening has multiple uses. It creates a calming state and results in chemical changes that help beat depression and anxiety (getting the amygdala to stand down and stop detecting threats over time, which is what is going on in anxiety). Besides this, the havening method can also alter the landscape of your brain, making it stronger and more resilient, biologically changing, and altering the state of your brain.
The Havening Technique involves very specific, gentle touch repetitively on your shoulders and upper arms, your palms, or your face. Such haven touch produces a form of an electrical wave which is known as the Delta wave (0.5-2 Hz). This delta wave is the same as what you produce when you are in slow-wave sleep – the deepest form of sleep you can go into.
This Delta wave changes the state of your brain and alters its chemical and electrical balance. The haven touch and the delta wave increase your brain’s serotonin level – a pleasure-producing hormone – and decrease cortisol – a stress-producing hormone. Thus, the Havening Technique decreases your stress level and takes you into a very calm state.
