All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. As long as you wish to enter hypnosis (a deep relaxed and focused natural state), you will. It’s an easy, enjoyable and totally relaxing process. A medium trance is usually very effective when your breathing and heartbeat slows down. The brain then produces Alpha and Theta waves. In theta state, your body gradually relaxes and heals at the cellular and DNA level, just like in Delta sleep.
Conversely, if you do not want to be hypnotised you will not be. Therefore, cooperation is crucial for real changes.
Sandy works with a wide range of age group from 7 years old. Kids at their young age actually are very good subject to be hypnotised, they can go into trance much easier than an adult. It’s important to note that no matter what age, it must be the CLIENT’S highest priority that is addressed in a session (this often differs from parental priorities).
Hypnosis is not sleep. You can call it is meditation with a goal. When you are in a very relaxed and focused state, you feel like you are “asleep”, but here we refer to the sleep of the conscious mind. Know that your subconscious mind never sleeps.
You will be fully aware of the therapist’s voice and can recall what you have experienced after the session.
A trained hypnotherapist knows how deep to take you in trance state according to the session need.
The majority of clients would describe hypnosis as a pleasant relaxing experience. When you are in trance, your breathing will be slower and deeper, your limbs and eyelids will feel heavy.
As you enter alpha or theta brainwave, it is where rapid-eye movement (REM) occurs. You will feel totally relaxed yet in control throughout the hypnosis. Also, you will be drifted off and “forget” about time and space, with a feeling of time distortion. You may feel like you have only been in trance for ten minutes after half hour hypnosis.
No clients are “made” to do anything against their will using hypnosis.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. The therapist is just a facilitator.
Hypnotherapy is about empowering patients with suggestions to achieve mutually negotiated goals.
Everyone is different, depending on what you work on in that particular session. You might leave the clinic with excitement or you may feel a sense of reflection or wonder. You may continue to discover even more about yourself after the session. You might be able to find a lot of self hypnosis audio on youtube, but it might not be targeted to your exact goals and needs.
A trained hypnotherapist offers a personalised comprehensive and holistic program which helps you to achieve your goals skilfully. Through the one-on-one hypnotherapy sessions, the therapist will get to know your background, the conditions and help you to expand your awareness around your issue, and tailor made a program suitable for you.
You will be guided to remove any mental blockages, change limiting belief, upgrade your inner child and so on during the sessions, which are very hard for you to do it on your own.
If you are new to learn about hypnotherapy, you might not know how to distinguish a well-trained hypnotherapist and hypnotist.
As a well-trained hypnotherapist, we don’t only work on your symptoms. Usually what hypnotists do is suggestion therapy, i.e. giving clients’ unconscious mind suggestions related to your issues. However, it would be just a bandage, not a long-term solution.
A well-trained hypnotherapist helps you to resolve underlying emotional and psychological issues, especially helping you to find out the root cause and put you in the driver seat and out of the dark, so that your mind is no longer run by an unconscious programming.
For example, if you want to quit gambling, the steps of “Hypnotherapy for Stop Gambling” involve:

One of the techniques Sandy uses is called Regression. Regression is an amazing way to discover the source of an issue. You will be taken back to the source of the issue and observe the event like a detective. You will observe events or experiences in an adult eye (a higher perspective) you have had in your past. And you will feel completely safe as you observe.
Hypnosis will reach your subconscious mind even if you do happen to fall asleep. If you would like to remain awake while listening to hypnosis, we recommend listening while seated upright, not lying down. Others prefer to listen to hypnosis right before bed with the intention of falling asleep during or immediately after. This is especially great for those who want to overcome insomnia and stress.
Hypnotherapy is not recommended for:
- People with epilepsy, severe mental health problems (e.g. Schizophrenia) or psychotic symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, paranoia), or learning disabilities where cooperation is difficult;
- Those under the influence of alcohol or drugs where concentration is impaired;
- Children under 6 years old are too young for hypnosis as there is a reduced attention span.
- experiencing diagnosed mental disorders, or who are on medication to suppress their emotional state.
- You’re ready to actively participate in having your goal accomplished
- You’re serious to change with an open minded attitude
- A natural, drug-free solution is important to you.
- You’d like to have a real conversation about your situation and co-operate fully with the therapist
- You’re committed for a program to achieve successful outcome
- You’re honestly excited about the idea of succeeding.
- You’re committed to do self-hypnosis using the recorded audio from home after the session to reinforce your desired goals. (All clients reported that they have significant improvement and amazing positive effect on their life when they listen to the hypnotic audio every day.)
The number of sessions needed are taken on a case by case basis and decided between the client and therapist depending on their needs. For each program, there is an initial sessions stated. For example, quit smoking needs at least 3 sessions while dealing with trauma needs at least 6 sessions. Sandy’s goal is helping clients to design the best treatment program with lasting results.
All the work we do here is collaboration, we work together as a team. Sandy is helping you with her expertise. You are responsible for whatever it is you wish to change or overcome. Online Sessions are available for clients in Make It Happen Hypnotherapy. Online sessions are equally as effective as face to face. Currently Zoom is used, it is easy & free for you. Instructions are provided if you need. Especially if one has agoraphobia, or live far from Brisbane, or some other specific reasons, you are welcomed to choose online sessions. Please make sure you have the necessary privacy in your home or office for the sessions. And have a pair of earphone/headphone.

Hypnotherapists do not come under Medicare. It’s not about experience or high standards, unfortunately.
Sandy is qualified to give you a receipt for a refund with your Private Health Fund, if you have extras for Hypnotherapy or Counselling.
Provide the name and number of your Fund, we will call them before our session to receive a provider number with them. And by the end of the session, we’ll give you a receipt stated with the service and date.
Some Private Health Fund Provider requires the Hypnotherapist to be also a psychologist. In this case, you are not able to get a rebate
Stage hypnosis uses hypnosis in a manipulative way in order to generate some unusual behaviours for entertainment. On another hand, a Clinical Hypnotherapist uses hypnosis in an ethical way, within the control, permission and full awareness of the clients. So a client will never do something he doesn’t agree with or doesn’t want to do.
